The Angel Of Death

Nothing could be more appropriate or thrilling than to be getting ready for a masquerade ball on Halloween night. It suited her just fine she thought as she applied the ghastly green colored goop to her lips that she had picked up at the market earlier that day. She smacked her lips then drew a bit closer to her hand held mirror and smiled approvingly at herself.
"There, there! You evil looking witch!" she told herself cackling a bit. "You look absolutely  menacing, you horrible old hag. You're bound to scare the wits out of anyone you should meet tonight!"

She grabbed her purse and was dropping the lip gloss into it when her cellphone rang disturbing the quietness of the room with it's menacing sound . It must be her darling boyfriend, Norman, calling to let her know he was on his way. He was so considerate of her and good about doing that to put her at ease.
She tapped the answer button on her phone and growled, "You've reached the witch's house," she said holding back a giggle."I'm afraid your favorite witch isn't in at the moment. She just happens to be outside taking a swift run about the lawn on her broom."

She stood there waiting for Norman to say something but no voice came.
"Hello, Norman. is this you?" she asked as she stood there all alone in her apartment. She could hear the sound of heavy breathing but no one answered.
"Norman! Say something so I know it's you on the phone!"
"Beware," there came a strange gritty voice. "Beware. The Angel of death awaits you."
She froze feeling a chill come over her body, not recognizing the voice. For a moment she felt a half moan coming from her throat and then her body shivered as  the voice repeated the warning.
"If this is some kind of joke, it isn't funny," she said feeling the hairs on her neck stand up."Stop this foolish prank. I don't know how you got this number anyway."
The caller breathed heavily on the other end and again repeated  the words, "Beware. The Angel of death awaits you!" just as the lights went out in the apartment.
