This Afterlife

Normalcy
It will never be the same
Just months ago
Literally
We was living
Three months prior
A new year
2020
Everyone believed
This was the year
For prosperity
Everything was on the up
Economy was on the rise
But a nightmare soon approached
A Hollywood Sci-fi movie
Over exceeded its set
Making the whole U.S.
Its major punch line
And now....
This afterlife has been created
Bringing death to us
Killing every way of life we known
What was meant to be
Has all been forgotten
Struggle
Even those with deep pockets
Felt this pandemic
The government
Lost for words
Many things has been said
But not much as been done
In the earlier stages
The Nation's Capital
Took a stand
Sent out twelve hundred dollar checks
And increased the unemployment benefits
For they believed
This was going to blow over real soon
Even I believed
But soon
Jobs were closing their doors
Businesses
Shutting down early
Masks
Required to be worn
Or no service
After six months
The numbers seem to be rising
But everyday life
Has taken over
Gotten used to these new guidelines
But the pandemic
Is far from over
People are still unemployed
Jobless
Businesses
Still closing their doors
And the government
Trying not to give up another cent
No more stimulus checks
Or tax breaks
Leave the U.S. citizens
To fight for ourselves
With the great election approaching
Many have their own opinions
Beliefs
Of whom can do the most for us
But as I see
Nobody can bring us back to life
Donald Trump or Joe Biden
Can only do so much
And the people around them
Still don't know everything about this
COVID-19
So then it ends up
Back on us
And many people have given up
On a government
That's supposed to be looking out
For us
But now there's different groups
Going against authority and government laws
And voting
Is not in their future plans
This afterlife
What will come of us
What does our future hold
Only time will tell
But every single day
The statistics are getting worse
