I'm Not Your Puppet

You think
when you say jump
I should jump
and when you say
do it
I hop to it
You are forgetting
I'm not your puppet
I'm not your plaything
to do with
as you please

You're vain
and think everything
has to do with you
your wants
your needs
your sole desire
I am not
your puppet
No....
I am not your thing

You are an imposter
You play at love
like it was just a game
I should tie you
to your chair
and leave you there...
with your friend
your precious bottle
 because
I'm not your puppet

Author's Note
This is what it's like to love a practicing alcoholic. Believe me. It's no picnic Sometimes it's easy to get angry and accuse them of things while forgetting just how very ill they are. This is actually about my father who I grew to hate because I suffered severely both physically and emotionally from his abuse. I say hate but I can now have compassion for him since he is gone and can't hurt me anymore. But as a child I did not know he was mentally ill. When your mother says your father is sick you think it's too bad he has a cold. You don't realize it's the alcohol that makes him sick and you sure as hell can't understand why the parent wants to hurt you.
