The plight of the Perpetual Pilgrim

Pity those misguided noble souls
and me amongst ‘em
desperately searching for some higher truth
on an impossible quest
to discover unobtainable answers

Toiling through absurdity
surviving on the shreds of wisdom
which have somehow lasted
times tried and tested, sweeping brush
Or dots of new found knowledge
caught before they reach the ground to spoil

Who walk the road to nowhere
asking at each precipice or plateau
“Is this destiny? Is this it... where I belong?”
But seekers seldom stay too long
however welcome, rested feet ache to roam

Woe the plight of the perpetual pilgrim
rambling the endless possibilities of existence
turning over rocks or gazing stars
The journey, their only true destination

the meaning right there just waiting to be found
