Zen Black No.4

“Your body is like a dew-drop on the morning grass, your life is as brief as a
flash of lightning. Momentary and vain, it is lost in a moment.”

                                                              Dogen (from the “FukanZazengi”)

at birth
each breath
each subtle sigh
tear
smile
cry
moves us closer
to death

along this path
time takes us
from present
to past

past to present

tomorrow
&
the day after

fleeting moments
of cosmic light
reflecting
in all directions

now…
seeing the oneness
&
transitory nature
of reality
brings wonder
&
wisdom

brings compassion
&
appreciation
for this

this life

Author's Note
I gave a brief talk on the Four Dharma Seals...Suffering-Impermanence-Emptiness-Nirvana, at a Zen retreat on the weekend. This piece grew out of that.
