memorabilia

when we said
our last goodbye
your eyes were
ash-gray
there were bits
of us on your lashes
our promises began
to dance like fireflies
all around us,
going heavenwards

our last kiss was
a smoke signal
and I choked on
your carbon dioxide sorries.
you closed my window
and locked my doors
and forced me to
watch my heart
burn to a cinder.

and you still have
the matchbox as
memorabilia.
