Because of you

I can imagine now

as we, together, stand above
a rippling watercourse at night,
my eyes full filled with gazing at
the way your hair cascades
in evening’s languished shades
around your face

how you,

as I recount, low voiced,
(because you’ve asked of them),
the stories of the scars upon my heart,

reach out

to touch my chest
and then to cup my face,
intent to stroke away the ghosts of pain
still lingering, locked up inside of me,

to say,

to say, that I should know
with you,
and me within your hands,

I will be whole again.
