Our Broken Obsessions

We tore into each other like gift wrapping
To find broken toys and parts
Two lost souls frozen in treatment
Thirsty for the warmth of another

We each shared our demons
Embracing brokenness as one
Melting our metals together
We forged into one thickening soul

We smothered each others' illness
To function in private flawed worlds
Soaring the skies for breath
Then falling to Satan’s burning bowels

Ah, but what rich pleasures we found
Entwining our sinewy desires
Ancient appetites masquerading as passion
Slaying ourselves a little each time

My shining tower rose to your nakedness
Then thrust deep into your psyche
Sensations not dulled by medication
I stabbed frantically for our moment’s raw thrill

I wake to see you spread across our fleshly bed
Like a poem with lines half written
Beautiful in death, a martyr to our loss
Where two souls struggled and became one

I cup my hands on your pubic mound
What worlds of pleasures were born!
I bury my head in your cooling chest
As the worlds we’ve made go black
