tell me a lie

Love is the most expensive and sought-after feeling in this world.
We even pay for it with tears and grief
.—Maria Bastida

tell me a lie
though the night with her was sultry
you did not commit adultery
—else, will i die…

tell me a lie
that you will not think of leaving
though my heart is bruised with grieving
—never good-bye!

tell me a lie
that the lies you wove this morning
breached your tongue without much warning
—can truth be wry?

tell me a lie
that your penitence is genuine
though my heart is far from sanguine
—pie in the sky?

tell me a lie
that your love will never falter
though you slay me at the altar
—there let me die!
