The Selfish Truth

I foolishly threw them all away.
So the price is mine to pay.
Shield them from my despair.
That's my lie laid bare.
Take leave of my sorrow.
To have a better tomorrow.
But I left you in my wake.
I made the huge mistake.
The choice is set in stone.
Now I'm all alone.
It's one-hundred percent true.
I turned my back on you.
Regret fills my empty soul.
Flooding into the dark hole.
Realizing it far too late.
That I gave up something great.

Some decisions seem selfless on the surface, but are really just an excuse to be selfish.
I wish I could go back and make it right, but I can't anymore.
