"Covid City Blues"

Covid City...
Where a tender touch
Becomes a vicious shove
Where no such love
Comes from a voice from above.

For years
Covid city
Held the virus
At bay
But it wasn't the virus
We should of been
Concerned with...
...It was the people!!

The city put us under curfew
It's residents
Defied the rules
Ignored advice
Choosing to indulge
In childish games
And unknown pleasures.

They Chose wealth
Before health
Pleasure before safety
Desire before common sense
As death's increased daily.

I stood on mounds
Of discarded face masks
As she lay dying
In my arms,
She brushed
My cheek
With her broken hand,
Whispering in my ear
Succuming to her fate
The gods had forsaken her
The people of
Covid city had taken her.

The hunt for her killers
Eased the pain
But the man
Behind the eyes
Was changing
I could live with it
But I'm not sure
Anybody else can.

Love turned to Grief
turned to rage
Until I pondered
"Why not smash
A few windows"
I was in the mood
To break things
To break people
I always had a temper.

I should of been thinking
Of her
But Grief
Flooded everything
As it always does
Grief, guilt
Chanelled
Into gratuitous
graphic violence.

Only at the end
Do I finally understand,
That This town has
Has ran me down
Like a course of
Anti-biotics
That make you sick
And the rivers run
With the city's slick.
Her final words
Ring true.

"We must adapt,
We must evolve
Into something different,
Something larger
Then ourself's
Something bigger
Then our induvidual parts
Something unbreakable"

The city was broken
And now
I was broken too.

But swollow this
Bitter pill I must
And finally I realize...

...This ain't disneyland
This ain't Chinatown Jack!
I'm feeling the
Covid City Blues
And one day
I'm going to take it back.
