A Bond Broken

In the midst
of the world ending,
we stared at each other
and it was as if
we could outlast the rest.

Our unspoken love
could surpass anything,
as long as we stayed in sync.

Then a car passed by
and his gaze shifted.

My heart immediately dropped,
our bond had been broken.
The magic we shared
had floated off into the midnight air.

When his gaze fixed back on mine,
he looked like a stranger.
Distant
and
foreign.
