To the Men Who Refuse to Unlearn

He grew up hearing "try harder"
and now he's got a rape allegation
with his name on the front cover
she said no but all he heard was
"push, shove, take it farther"
 
Men, why the hell do you even bother?  
 
My sisters don't leave  
without a blade hiding in their sleeve
they go out in packs
because sometimes survival
means you got to put  
your power in numbers on blast
 
And society takes it's ugly head
and turns the other cheek
to a woman who says  
"Stop it, please"
 
Instead...
 
They mimic the response of
"this wouldn't be happening
if you weren't being a tease"
 
Men never believe  
they're the cause of the disease
nor do they hear the outward pleas
of women dying in the streets
 
I know you can't be deaf
for even sign language
can hear emotion,
then measure every  
single silent movement
from the heave of a breath
to the panic of hands and feet
grasping for fleeting hope
only to be met with defeat
 
You have zero excuse
and if you aren't willing to relearn
to adapt, to grow, to unlearn,
to reprogram the bullcrap
your religion, shit fathers
brainwashed and silent mothers
crammed into your heads
then you will never, ever
receive a warm welcome  
to the rest of what the 21st century
has to offer
