Faith

My love for her transcends beyond the boundaries of a mother/daughter relationship.

She has endured such hardship, so much loss and suffering, that I couldn't believe a god would ever exist.

I've never told her it's why I'm an atheist.

But I love how she looks up and apologises for my blasphemy as if "he" could hear.

"She doesn't mean it" her voice loud and clear.
I'm mesmerised by her faith.

To still trust, and love and have belief, for me is unachievable.

Almost ridiculous and not believable, and yet I see her light shine through.

So my faith is built in her, anew.
My temple, my goddess, my angel,
My mum.

Author's Note
Snippet from something I am writing that isn't poetry, but the line felt too powerful to be ignored. (Edit I've added bits on)
