Broken dream

Broken road
Winding up
Memory heavy loaded
Dust settling on a stony track
Turning and winding me back
Clear blue, glint of sea
The bay full of islands
Seen from mountains of green
Monkey apple trees
The dip and the rise
Long driveway shady
Following cicada cries
Tank stand, concrete block walls
Corrugated iron roof, tiled floors
Cool veranda covered with wisteria
Wood burning stove from another era
Camelia bushes heavy with dew
Agaves, roses and palm fronds
Smell of smoke from the steel flue
Mosquito nets, mason bees
Dark wooden beams
At nights the stars so close
Filling your dreams
Bare feet running down
Rushing creek stony dam
Light shining reflecting on watery sounds
Climbing through woods
Following ruts from cows hooves
Nights of piano music to soothe
A rusty Ferguson tractor that wouldn't start
Walls covered in miscellaneous art
It was a time apart
Up that road
All overgrown covered in weeds now
It still touches my heart
Like the road it was named after
Broken apart
