Burning

Eva Jean caught the woods on fire
They yelled as they went running by
What happened? I asked someone
She was burning leaves, then the wind
Picked up considerably, the sage field
Was gold like wheat and dry as kindling
One shift in the wind and the field was Burning
It whirled from the heat and raced Toward the woods
People ran with sloshing buckets and
Spanked at the fire with shirts and Towels
But once it reached the woods it didn't Take much the start the under growth
And that caught an old dead log, heart of Pine I think
Well, that went to blazin' and the next Thing you know the woods were on fire
It seemed like everything was burning
It seemed like the world was on fire
We were all running towards the burning
Woods and all the animals and critters Were running out of the forest
We couldn't control it
It was a terrible feeling
Nobody's fault, just one of those things
It just happened
Luckily it finally saw fit to burn itself out
The fire died down slowly, but embers Glowed bright orange and there was the Occasional pop and crackle
Smoke sizzled up from the hot spots and
The smell of smoke lingered in the air for A long time afterwards
The earth was blackened until it Reseeded and returned to its former Green self.
Don't you know everyone thinks twice Before burning leaves now
And everyone says
Remember that time. . .
