Deeply Rooted

With a lashing of the tongue
words hit just like a belt
the body cringes and withdraws
each strike is deeply felt

The pain in that moment
from harsh words blatantly thrown
falls to a darkened place
a seed has now been sown

The seed becomes rooted
every time the belt appears
with each demeaning word
its flooded with her tears

embedded knees becomes it's trunk
each and every time she falls
to another verbal bashing
growth gaining from name calls

A tree it soon becomes
branches reaching far and wide
it blocks out all the sun
leaving only darkness by her side

I'ts cold and its eerie
an unpleasant place to be
but alone there she will stay
until there's light again to see.
