Poppin's Principle

Today, blatherskite
erase tedious blathers
pray let’s go fly one

My thoughts turn
to the Bank's family
in the park
the whimsy of flying kites
that Valentine's Day
years ago
when mom and dad
brought kites home
to celebrate
the good ones mind you
brightly colored
translucent paper
tightly rolled
round wooden stays
to diamond unfolding
more typically
by us fashioned
from newspaper
thin, green,
bamboo garden stakes
with ripped old bed sheet
strips for a tail

All life's cares grounded
wind driven souls soaring high
on tightly gripped string
