Author's Note
Photo is one of my home grown sunflowers, poem is inspired by and created for 'The Goddess Within' comp. I thought of how sunflowers are like a goddess of the earth after seeing a bumblebee sleeping right on the center of one later in the day like it was his sustenance or retreat and lover or mom.

I have a terrible time differentiating between similar hues ( I'm as colorblind as a bat in a Crayola factory ), but thank goodness one can zoom in on images or I would not have been able to read the text.
Another beautiful photo I'm jealous of because I can never take a decent one to save my life. My earliest memories of are a sunflower patch and being in the company of my mother, so it resonates well with me.
Your poem evokes the word "brazen" because of the usage of flame along with the boldness of the sunflower to tower above everything else.
Good luck in the Goddess Within comp!

I'm glad you were able to read it, I wondered about that with the orange lettering. Up here where summers are short, it really common to see a few sunflowers in everyone's front yard. I grew a mix of different colors, some yellow, some orange and they're about 5 feet tall, mini size. I've never actually seen a whole field of them, that must be a wild sight. I did feel like the sunflower was brazen and that seemed appropos of a goddess theme. Thanks so much for the comment :)

A beautiful offering, PR! I love the image contrast, and the words are lovely. It does make one wonder, or, at least it does me, who a bumblebee considers their goddess. Best of luck in the competition!

Maybe the queen bee is truly the bumblebees goddess, but I read some info on bumblebees and the males have some wanderlust, they can spend the night on flowers and stems while the females stay behind to tend the hive. I found several sleeping among our flowers. I loved the comp idea, thanks for the encouragement :)
Re: Re. Ablaze
I've seen photographs of bees asleep in and on flowers, covered in a pollen blanket! The imagery was beautiful!

I found that your write had a rather gentle, organic unfolding, quite suited to the subject matter. Syllabic harmony was mellifluous. There is beautiful proportion and harmony to this write.

Sunflowers bloom slowly, I guess because they're so large, it takes days for one to unfold and it happens gently one petal at a time. I wanted the poem to reflect that, thanks for noticing that quality. I tried to relate it also to a woman coming of age, thus a goddess in slow transformation. I'm so glad it came through that way, thanks so much for the insightful comment, friend 💕

Thanks so much for the comment, I actually posted another sunflower visual that had dew on the petals, that was the inspiration for that line, I'd love to read your latest :)

This is brilliant and delightful. I like the poem, the inspiration and insight you've shared on this page. The sunflower and goddesses are truly wondrous.
I often have sunflowers grow in my veggie patch, and especially enjoy watching the native birds hang from the flowers to feast when they go to seed. A totally selfless offering to life... the epitome of a mother.

I just put paper bags over a couple of mine to preserve the seeds from the birds and save for next year. When I wrote this, I was so focused in bees, I didn't think of birds enjoying them, but that's so true. Thanks so much for the comment, enjoy your sunflowers :)

Oh, thanks, I'm really glad you liked it. Flowers are so easy to photograph, they don't try to run away or swim away from the camera, that makes it fun :)
