Soliloquy

I bequeathed my best offering
Yet found myself wanting
Faded echoes of an unanswered prayer
My heart beating like muted thunder
And dreams torn asunder
Somewhere between love and despair

I sought out the sages
And wise fools of all ages
The poets and singers of songs
I searched through the scriptures
And moldy books with no pictures
For an anaswer to how love can go so wrong

Crooked saints and righteous sinners
The losers and the winners
In those amorous matters of the heart
The remain silent
On love gone unrequited
And the desire that can tear you apart

Still I'm lost in her always
She's the measure of all my days
Where does it all go from here?
Will she bend to my longing
Or shall I keep wandering?
How must I prepare?

Until then I'll keep singing
Her praises like vesper bells ringing
Bound to the wounds of this prayer.
