Neglected Pause
I live in a neglected pause —
I think I just fell into it by mistake
so I made a case for ‘serendipity’ to add meaning;
“God’s Will” someone suggested, trying to be helpful.
Exploring the pause I found a stray dog without a bone —
how the hell did he get here?
But when I encountered pink carnations rocking on a rainbow
to The Doors’ Roadhouse Blues, I thought
wow, weird scenes inside a goldmine indeed,
I’ve stopped the clock — life is worth living after all.

LOSER! We lived in England then and my parents went to that concert! They stayed the weekend and left us with a babysitter in the country! I was only TEN so they wouldn't take me! They said if I'd've been 12 they would've ( right ).
Music is always worth living for; it definitely stops the clock, and even turns it back at times.
Love it, Josh.

My parents would never have gone in a million years, so yours were well tuned in and on the right track. You can here a baby crying part way through the concert - wouldn't be allowed nowadays. Still, I saw quite a few groups since.
Re: Re. Neglected Pause
Well, you have to realize that my parents were fairly young ( 26 & 28 ) and living abroad. The majority of these musicians were from America. It was like being home! Sort of. Woodstock was full of children. It was a norm then, particularly with outdoor concerts. Not so sure it would be allowed now. . .

Ah well, my parents were a different generation (aged 60 & 50 in 1970 when I was 14) so I grew up in a kind of latter-day Victorian atmosphere where long-hair & pop music provoked a kind of "what is the world coming to?" response.

Thank you Harry, and for the RL. My wife saw Leonard Cohen in Berlin ages ago, and he was really drunk making for a lousy concert, but I reckon he redeemed himself many times over :))

Ah, the good old days - tickets were £3 each - and then because so many people turned up, it was declared a free concert for all-comers.

Dear J,
Alas, I understand a lost opportunity. But- there’s no sense living in the past. We can only hope...eh! Who am I kidding? Total bummer. I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to go to this mega palooza concert. Your write describing this massive event is terrific though! H🌷

Thank you Honoria. Some missed opportunities linger in the mind ... so I made the most of it as a student seeing lots of groups - including Pink Floyd on their "Dark Side of the Moon" tour - amazing stuff. All the best, Josh.

"the gift of negative space" .. is the best way to summarise it, I reckon. And you're right, amazing what one can find. Moreover, a lot is on youtube now. And thank you for the RL too.

The economy of the write, counterpointed by the fullness of spirit and dimensions in its details, is perfectly proportionate. I've gone over it several times now, stilling my thoughts and letting it speak to me from its journey.

You know, I'm like jealous of you and Ahavati having been around truly epic times in the history of rock and roll (the college where I work at offers a class in that). But being a big fan of classic rock I'm always in awe of folks who got to live these experiences.
Josh, again you continue to amaze with these musings. You perfectly capture the moments and meaning of what it means to be human.
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Wally for your kind comments - my grandmother said every era has its benefits and challenges though I think for my childrens' era (born in the 1980s) and those later, the challenges seem more daunting than my generation and the benefits of a type I am unable to get my head around (internet-based careers). I feel the world was a much kinder place growing up in the 1950s/60s/70s but 1980s-Thatcher/Reagan changed all that and 30 years on we see the result of the experiment of believing 'market forces' shape the best type of society. RL much appreciated.
