Confession

She was in the confessional
Not easy for her
Her soul to bare
Without being sentimental.
Yes, her morals were
In the pits,
But, hey, if the shoe fits.

The priest had heard such before
(Had even read De Sade, good Lord!)
But even monks and nuns
With their evil deeds
In the monasteries and nunneries done
Failed to approach
This lady's acts of depravity.
He had to forgive and bless
But, for him, the worst indignity
For her name
Was Mary.
