The Distracting of America
Is it hate
no, wait
food, sex
don't hesitate
feed that need
for intimacy
Technology boom
cellphones loom
it's been going on
for years
a smart phone
pressed against
everyone's ear
What will it take
Is it too late
to free us all
from our distracted state
live in the moment
once again
deliver us
from this doomed fate
Are we out
of touch with reality
imprisoned by
and a slave
to modern technology
lost in a world
lacking humanity
no, wait
food, sex
don't hesitate
feed that need
for intimacy
Technology boom
cellphones loom
it's been going on
for years
a smart phone
pressed against
everyone's ear
What will it take
Is it too late
to free us all
from our distracted state
live in the moment
once again
deliver us
from this doomed fate
Are we out
of touch with reality
imprisoned by
and a slave
to modern technology
lost in a world
lacking humanity

Great read, I'll confess I'm guilty as I'm using my smart phone now:)

Thank you very much for responding to my poem. I think pretty much all of us are guilty. I don't let much stress me out except when I am having an issue with my cellphone. I'm a mess then because I do so much on my phone it feels like everything stops.

Re. The Distracting of America
I have always found it ironic that the more advanced we become technologically, the less time we seem to have for ourselves and others. That first stanza is such an astute observation, Faith.
I was just talking to a friend yesterday about people feeding their soul with the wrong food, and thus becoming stuck in an addictive, repetitive cycle of never full; on the contrary, they crave more and more until it eventually kills them spiritually; or, they wake up and make the long, arduous journey home.
Thank you for such a thought-provoking piece. xo

I thank you for sharing your thoughts so freely. I always appreciate what you have to say. Instead of loving people and using things, people often use people and love things. It's really sad.

To true. Just look at people sitting at tables in the restaurant: eyes fixed on their phone gizmos...not at each other.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my poem. I appreciate your comments. I believe we were already social distancing before the pandemic arrived. It just determined the physical distance we are doing it.

Before COVID I went on many yoga retreats that had a "no tech" component ... it was a great chance to unplug ... so miss that now ... cannot wait till I can go on another ... nicely poeted Faith ...

This is a fantastic write. I agree, have we outstripped are ability to cope with technology and it's advancements?
Great write as always.
