Rose-colored Memories

A solemn silence fills the air.
Our lips are ever still—
The memories still linger there,
But the love has lost its thrill.

Once upon a love anew,
We glistened like a drop of dew;
A withered rose now lay askew,
Within the garden which it fondly grew.

I stare into a false reflection,
Mirrored softly on the wall—
In this cave of recollection,
My thoughts begin to crawl.

I saw the writing on the wall,
As I gazed into the crystal ball.
For it was written in our destiny,
This forbidden love will never be.
