I've read this three times, and think L2 may work better in past tense, as you start out with 'Served'.

The tense alteration also plays into the consonance of T throughout the verse. Read it aloud and see what you think.

Some people are better at interpreting than others. Even when you think you're being clear and open, things somehow get lost in translation. Communication can be such a tricky business.
