The greyhound bus

the Greyhound bus it's tyres lapped the road
each mile of bumps and ruts
in my mind the waterfall of auburn hair
frothing like a newly opened soda
red sunset lighting up the clouds
the evening breeze that whisked the trees
sentiment of passing fields
buffer wind that stirred the yield
I wonder ? are you looking older
caught in the glare and looking scared
the road kill of self doubt, abandoned
her features caught in  landscapes
impossible walls of hopes grand canyon
love letters, our rose petals
fading like the miles
county lines and boarders
romance and its turnpikes
the air conditioner that nags, blows hot and cold
 gridlock stuck in the underpass
diversion, wind like her head scarf
the driver Holler's; comfort stop !
question is, should you return
or just thumb a lift
going back for pity's sake
alone on the hard shoulder
my head screaming like the brakes
country group sing blues, as the first star appears
and daydreams float, a crucifix of jet trails
to continue on, complete an opera of soap
will she wait, was there still a glimmering of hope
