Maybe if I...
Lay here long enough
Close my eyes hard enough
Pretend hard enough
That the air around me
Were simply a casket
And that the breath in my lungs
Would cool and still themselves
Maybe then I can will my death

I think you’ve penned something some of us have felt at one point or another. It’s a hell of a lot to feel and ponder, the always looking shadow approaching from the depths of despair.

Fortunately your physical system will by itself not make that possible. it will ''ignite'' breathing again. But I understand the basis of the beautiful poem. Just do not give in to despair. Please.
