No Country for Old Superman
there'll come a time
when superman will have to hang up his cape
all his friends would have long passed
other more younger super heroes will rise up
taking his place as the undisputed champion
not thinking much of their cocky attitudes
even though it reminds him of a younger self
it only confirms his greatest fear
becoming too fragile to fight like he used to
his relevance will quickly diminish
bored with his days he will pick up drinking
spending most nights alone
drunk in just his undies in an empty room
sometimes putting on old cartoons of himself
ones that depict him in his prime
he’ll look back on his life
thinking of his true love Lois Lane
smiling at old pictures of them flying around
the life they used to live
before she was struck with breast cancer
exploring relations with other women
but none that could replace her
one day he will be arrested for public indecency
finding himself the joke of the tabloids
he will then get clean
pick up healthier hobbies
meeting up for coffee at the local Starbucks
gathering with other forgotten heroes
all of life’s answers will finally become clear
when he realizes those that passed on
are the real lucky ones
and the living are the ones that are dead inside
imagining his gone friends on fluffy clouds
awaiting his arrival like they once did
yes, there’ll come a time
when he has learned all he could learn
save all he could save
give all the love he could give
then be forgotten about
fading away ungracefully into obscurity
awaiting to see what may come next
closing his eyes
accepting his undeniable fate

A very thought provoking piece ... This poem makes us think about our own life... allowing us to analyse it and let us know where we are going wrong...and how we can mend up things while we still have time.....

Well my friends gave me the nickname Superman sometime ago. When I wrote the original I was thinking a lot of how life can be cruel to us all. Then I just starting thinking of an older Superman and went from there. Thanks for the read, friend 😁

I really enjoyed how you spilled this piece nicely it's a reflection of one's own trails and tribulations of life this is very enlightening and insightful as it is touching to the depth of the heart exposing true subconsciousness of thoughts capturing those moments long gone but never forgotten 🙏🤗🤔

I never seen that show. The trailers look similar to Watchmen and I love the Watchmen movie. Maybe I'll get to check it out sometime. Thanks for the read 😁
