WAKING AS WE WENT TO SLEEP

I wake in the dawn exactly as we went to sleep,
your body lies on mine, arms round me as if to keep
me from the danger of being spirited away,
weighting me down on my back, naked in the hay.
Your loose haired head rests in my left shoulder's direction.
I hear your breaths, rising and falling with mine like reflection.

Your breasts cushion upon my ribs, nipples hold some chest hair
directly underneath them, an inch off my own pair.
Boisterous lovemaking gave way to lying placid.
Your lower lips ensconce my piece, wet but now flaccid,
as if from penetrating you it had now retreated
and cooled down from the ardour of a battle heated.

Your thighs straddle my thighs, each ankle rests upon mine,
where last night yours would bind mine up when we did entwine.
Then from his barnyard coop house, cock without warning crows.
I feel you stir with a start at shedded cattle lows.
You rub your eyes, look in my face, raise yourself on arms,
giving me first morning flash of your topless charms.

You look out at the window and then the bedside clock.
"You'd better get up darling, to go turn out the stock."
You roll off to my right side, grip my hand, give me a kiss
that says, "You can go now". I welcome the shower's hiss,
dress, go out to turn them out, then back, to the kitchen
where you'll meet me serving fry up with just your robe on.
