Orpheus And Eurydice

Ancient Muse
Give us an hour for magic
We of the purple legion
We of the starry night
And velvet hour
We of statyr pleasures' breed
We of the sun and moon

Give us a creed

To believe
-
His voice echoed in the forest
And I saw what I never had seen
A Theater was built in the midst
Where they used to play on the green

And the gates of this Theater were shut
Prohibitions were writ over the door
No more a garden of love
That so many sweet flowers bore

And I saw it was filled with graves
And tombstones where flowers should be
And priests in black gowns, were walking their rounds
And binding with briars his joys and desires
-
There he sits and plays his lyre
Sweet I hear his mournful song
And all the lovely leaves among,
This is love, I hear in his tongue

There her charming face does lay
There she sleeps the night away
There she spends her endless day
Praying that she could be away

In some way at this fiery pit
Chirping loud and singing sweet
Like gentle streams beneath our feet
Orpheus and Eurydice will meet
