Tune Up

when she’s running a little rough
slow to get started
with the occasional sputter and cough
i shut her down and put her on the rack
for a bit of a tune up

when she’s running a little rough
it usually means she just needs a little attention

so i pull out my toolkit
oilcan and a bucket of grease
loosen her parts
lube her tubes
warm her up nice and slow

i pull every lever
twist her knobs and push her buttons

lube her chassis
gap her plugs
polish her hubcaps
just right she
she purrs like a kitten on crack

i push pull and tweak
drill and screw

open her throttle
goose the gas
feather the brake
when she’s in top gear
i just can’t stop

when she’s humming
something happens to me
pressure builds until i blow my gasket
she smiles
perfectly in tune

Author's Note
In the west, when heading out to the local dungeon, we say we’re ‘going to play‘’ and we bring our ‘toy bag’. In the east, they say we’re ‘going to work‘ and they bring their ‘tool kit’. Thought I would work on that eastern approach a bit.
