Nighttime at Broad and Norris

have you ever taken the time
to sit in the middle of a busy street?
I chose Norris and Broad
groggy and melodic
with song birds
marking the morning
The cusp of the new day’s dawn
one of the main arteries of the city
that gnarly build up
of cholesterol and fat
a perpetual blockage
suddenly free and curiously quiet
how can you not take a moment
hem and haw
and sit and see
everything as it is not?
how delicious it is
to see the world upside down
the city silent
an unclenching of tired veins
the path at peace.
