Rocking Child Left Behind

Wretchedness in life
Can contort us
Into fetal positions
Never knew existed
Torrents of tears
From swollen eyes
Eventual numbness
Anger, host of emotions
Before can again
Breathe normal
You and the rocking
Child left behind
Bewildered, asking why
In the throes of such
Unimaginable pain
Please accept
Outstretched jestures
Of kindness
Attempts at relieving
Your pain
Even if only in spirit
From those near or far
A friend, family member
Or complete stranger
Find comfort
During wee hours
Days yet to endure
Be selfish
Take, keep close
Till normalcy
Begins to return
And you can
Walk upright
Forward again

Dedicated to
Inspired by
vrc and the
Rocking twin
Left behind

Author's Note
Yesterday morning on Facebook, I happened upon a sorrowful poem written by a mother of 8-year-old twins. At the age of 17 and a 1/2, a child herself, one of the twins passed into the "Land of Nod " she stated.

With a stab to my heart and tears in my eyes, the very first thing on a Friday early morning to cross my eyes, I started to write to reach out. However, being the poetess that I am, it turned into a poem.

I have been given permission to not post her name, but instead use her initials.
