Alive

today i learned that it is much easier to
distrust everyone to assume everyone is
out to get you because most of them are

then it is easy to strike out to build
barriers ever taller ever wider better to
isolate better to survive in solitude

but it feels so good to choose one to trust
with my life even if there is potential betrayal
to open the door and invite them in

knowing that they are distrustful of me too
but have chosen to drop the armor vulnerable
for the moment i feel alive and thankful
