Those Moments

As I recall some memories from the back of my mind
For a brief second, place myself in those moments in time

It's surreal
The way it feels
As if I never left
Places that I dare not forget

As if those moments still exist
Dreams too homely to resist
Yet so painful to revisit
Knowing imagination's limits

Loved ones gone forever
In that moment, breathe again
Ties long ago severed
Greet them, and ask them how they've been

Surroundings replaced by rooms
In which I'll never again set foot
They blend in with the here and now
Won't fade from my thoughts, hear my vow

I can't turn back the years
But I can still see them through tears
Though right now they feel so near
Time keeps marching on, I fear

So close yet so distant
So hazy yet clear
Though gone in an instant
They remain always here
