Brown in Freezing Rain

Brown in freezing rain
bare trees ahead
blur down my windshield,
waiting for a light.
They drip to ochre, sienna down
always down… windshield,
dash, lap, paper.
Paper now with ochre stains
as though automatic
unconscious
transposed by my compliant mind.
