Gone
Sunset turns the clear water pale
The albatross roosts home
as my love and I walk along the pier,
Hand in hand.
No words are uttered
But the feelings are clear.
Will I be killed by a bullet or shell
Or the hell of knowing I might never see you again.
"Come back to me" she said
It's been two years now and the war is over
Not even the guns, tanks
Or the fury of a thousand bombs
Could stop me from returning to you.
But when I do
You are not there.
Disease they said.
Fighting to save the world,
But I couldn't save my love.
Grief.
