A Hug ~

A hug.

Firstly,

It is a foolish thing,
Like the residue of youthful dreams.
The polaroids you’ve seemed to keep,
Of friends with you on the swings.
That family, whom every week,
Brought your favourite,
Blueberry ice cream.

These childish little,
Pieces of bliss.
These broken, long-lost
Promises.

*
*

But,
Foolish things,
Never seem to leave us,
I believe.

*

Secondly,

Like a lone castaway,
The child will become afraid,
The isolation colder today,
Than bitterness from yesterday.

And this fast-paced world has made them say,

So...what about that online thing?

Instagramming,
Snapchatting,
Is that what I need?

Is that what I need?
To be truly happy?

~

Search histories,
Diary entries,
There’s no difference,
Digitally.
Scrolling through one’s misery,
1am,
No one will see.
In my chambers,
Searching things.
Secretly,
I’m drowning.
What’s trending,
Do you see?
Insta story,
Can I see?
Follow me.
Could you please?
Pretty,
Pretty,
Pretty,
Please?

What do I need...
Should I just leave?
No one’s gonna see,
Me disappear.

No one’s gonna see,
A child like me,
A lonely one,
Lost at sea.

~

Life moves too fast to see such things.

~

But,
I’m still here.

~

What?
Wait,
Who could you be?

~

Do you remember when you were fourteen?

~

Uh…
Well,
Not really.

~

Then,
That’s why you need me.

Cause yes,
We all need to mature,
I agree.
And, independence,
It is key.

But,
Those childish things,
In their simple beauty,
The sweet ice cream,
That you used to receive,
Is what made life,
Truly worth living.

So yes,
You are here.
But did I leave?

Not really, you see.
You can’t get rid of me that easily.

So my dear darling
I’m begging you please,
Trapped in this
Uncertainty.
I’ll hold you here
Closer to me.
I’ll hold you dear,
Eternally.
Stop looking,
Stop searching,
This is what you need.
Don’t look at anybody,
Please just,

Look at me.

And,
Stay with me.
Feel the warmth,
The intimacy.
Your immature things,
Forgive them,
For being.
It’s magic in your heart,
It’s here,
It’s blooming.

*
*

A hug.

*
*

Finally yes,

It is a tender thing.

Caught from a glance,
But melts you like a kiss.

The one timid child
That finally says this.

Your hug,
What it does,
Is something I can’t stress.

Two hearts,
One pulse.
Three words,
One bliss.

Your hug is what I want.
A promise not to miss.

Would you keep me here forever?
And forever, no less?

*
*

A foolish thing,
To promise forever,
You think?

But a dangerous thing,
Not to promise,
Anything.

~

A dangerous thing,
Even if,
Momentarily...

Not to try at least,
Try to believe

In sweet sympathies,
And those childish dreams.

During many of our hard times, it's so easy to wish for a hug, and it isn't even much to ask for. We don't want anyone to judge us more, we don't want anyone to devalue our feelings, we just want a hug...whether it be virtual, or physical. We want someone that understands us, because, that is when we can learn from them.

Sometimes, we need a friend to help us find the words with us, so that we don't feel so anxious and misunderstood anymore.

Loneliness and mental health in general is a hard thing to depict through words, so I commend you, if you are doing so on DU poetry, on any other platform, or even with a loved one.

Recently, I've been typing a small book called 12:02am, a Wattpad novel which helps to shed light on mental health and bring more humanity to it through the perspective of a person suffering with it and writing in a journal about their experiences.
(Kinda like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid format.)

To be honest, no matter who you are, or what you're suffering with, we all need someone to connect to.
This book discusses mental health issues such as: depression, social anxiety, perfectionism, and loneliness, but it isn't preaching an unfounded solution, more or less, though it may be a way to feel connected to someone.

A journal of wits and sincerity, connecting mental health, and the humanity in our hearts.
