Knife
My father had a hardware store
He was always opening boxes
He sold CASE knives in the store
He could have had any size he wanted
He chose this little model
2 1/2 inches when closed
It was perfect
Sharp as they come
Fit in his back pocket
Didn’t weigh a lot
When he died 20 years ago
My cousin collected up his belongings
Made up a package
A key ring, a comb, a money clip, other stuff
The knife however is the jewel in the crown
I use it almost every day
It was MADE IN THE USA
Engraved into the blade
That used to mean something
Still does
He was always opening boxes
He sold CASE knives in the store
He could have had any size he wanted
He chose this little model
2 1/2 inches when closed
It was perfect
Sharp as they come
Fit in his back pocket
Didn’t weigh a lot

The knife however is the jewel in the crown

Author's Note
My cousin was close to my dad. They were both veterans of different wars. He lived close by to my folks. He wanted me to have that knife and made sure I got it. A CASE knife is quality.

my dad always has a pocket knife in his pocket. he has his work knife and his dress knife. i always thought it was funny, but the older i get and the more i think about it, it makes sense.
both knives are Case knives. he has many different knives, but he still just uses the same two over and over.
I like when you write like this, cowboy. true stories that mean something. well done.

Thanks Lil
Got to share this one with family members today and they all remembered the knife. Sent the poem to my cousin in Florida by snail mail, he’s old school and won’t do anything online !!

Dear P,
Very touching write. Mine too. Carried a pocket knife, front pocket. Must be men of a certain generation. Well, it came in handy on many occasions. Haven't thought about this in years. Great write! H🌷

Re: Re. Knife
Thanks H
It’s a well made knife and a great weight for a small cutter. I remember the display case vividly as I worked there on weekends and summers when I was younger. It wasn’t where I wanted to be but I wasn’t given a choice. So I did as I was mostly told !!

Cool write Poet. I can totally get the connection and the meaning behind it all. These things become family relics that should be cherished for a long long time.

It's priceless and as sharp as the day is long.
My dad opened up thousands of boxes with that knife and I use it for many tasks. The knife is 50 years old at least....
Thx Wally
