I love the night
In the haze, deep in the urban forest,
A bug flies in the dark
And comes across
A matchstick, a set of drums, and a plastic menu
In the dumpster.
He lands on the menu
And sees foods in lettering
Smells of the waste in the dumpster
A universal comfort--
Trash all smells the same
And our fly is happy,
Licking up the soda stickings on the walls
And the bits of refuse.
The night hums, silently,
You can hear the dark
As a fawn nestles in her spot in the meadow
And the birds are sleeping
And the hawk is still for a moment
And the cars speed up and down New Cut
Racing in the sodium haze
The convenience store a 24/7 companion
Not always open, but its flooding lights
A beacon to find yourself in.
Never lost: I am never lost in the dark.
The dark makes so many things so much clearer
You can see a tiny light far away
Which otherwise would have been drowned
By sunlight
I love the night
I love the night
I love the night.
The night is dark
