Fear Of Overwhelming
Scared of these emotions
All my life
Have let them drip
For fear of overwhelming
Akin to a tsunami
Wild rapids
Someone could be swept away
In whipped up feelings
This heart is a marching band
Crescendo of its beat
Can be heard
Booming out
Whenever I let it go
More than usual
It’s crushing
Stifling
Never chose loneliness
It’s safer that way
I destroy what I love
By loving too much

I’m not sure how I’ve not bumped into before but color me foolish!
Your last stanza is so powerful and so something I do it takes me breath away. I don’t have a “that’s enough” button that can be pushed when I’m perilously close to destroying the thing I love the most. Wonderful write.

Holy moly,Colin— this hits a nerve and really affects me deeply. Your impact upon my sometimes same feelings with that astounding last stanza, almost leaves me in tears. Not only does this resonate, it feels like I could have possibly written that as well... Poignant and truthful, is that bittersweet ache of reality...

I relate... Feelings get to be just too much. Sometimes I really don't think there is a single solitary word to describe certain feelings.. sometimes things just feel how screaming FUCKKK sounds. Gotta let it out.
