can i begin
to understand
young and black
in this great land
where freedom lives
just by decree
and fear keeps all
from living free?
can i see you
i ask my heart
or am i the place
where mistrust
starts
me, who loves
the things you've done
am i the face
behind the gun?
am i the man
who puts his knee
on freedom's throat
so it can't breathe?
are you a suspect
in the mind
of a man who says
he's color blind?
do i see you
upon my walk
or just your skin
am i deed, or talk?
i ask these things
and pray to be
a man mind set
that all live free

It's a lovely request and prayer, Javalini. And only each person can answer it for themselves.
That the question is being asked here indicates likely not. Our nation's problems are often a result of straight up blaming and projection.

This is an important verse, I feel. Fear attracts, same as desire. We modify our own behaviors when we dwell too long in fear and then we become more susceptible to experiencing what we fear.

We live to acquire the rest of perfect Zen.
Often times subjects like these are forced upon our news intake.
They shove such "separation" into the minds of many by repetition to a high degree.
This no matter how subtle becomes imbedded to the masses.
Sad how we have moved forward in some ways, backwards in others.
I don't mean to hog up the comments here with my opinions of the such subjects...lol...it is just hard not to lol!!!
Your Write of Excellence here, strikes the nerve and raises the disgust to the subject...Frustration in a cry for simple normalcy
