POETRY AND THOUGHTS
POETRY AND THOUGHTS
For some, great verse is words well coined,
well culled to read and nicely joined
with images that stay in mind
and which are nice as their eyes find.
They try to show what they can sew,
a lovely dress in style and hue,
but they forget that this nice dress
should fit what can the mind impress.
For me, l read good verse till l
can find a thought that makes me sigh
when l find what can charm my heart,
the notions that give me delight.

You say "For some, great verse is words well coined, ..."
So what is "great verse" for others?
So what is "great verse" for others?

Dear Baldwin, It is:
but they forget that this nice dress [poetry]
should fit what can the mind impress. I mean thoughts.
Thank you.

Sorry, but your syntax indicates that the "they" you speak of are the "some" you mentioned in your first line, not what those who do n't belong to this "some" think poetry consists of.
And you haven't in any way shown that the "some" who view poetry as consisting of certain things are wrong to do so, let alone that they have forgotten that poetry should fit what impresses the mind.

The issue is not to whom you write, but whether your piece above is written well. You've done nothing to show that it does not contain the faults that I noted it has or that the inferences I have drawn from what you wrote are invalid.

Re: Re. POETRY AND THOUGHTS
The implication of the claim that "some say X" is that there are "others" who say Y or not X. But you have not noted, as you should have done, given your claim, what it is that "others" say in contrast to what "some say".
And what's wrong with claiming that great verse consists of what "some" say it is made up of?
And what's your proof that those who say that great verse "is words well coined, well culled to read and nicely joined with images that stay in mind" forget that poetry should fit "what can the mind impress"?

Re. POETRY AND THOUGHTS
For some, like Coleridge (a golden poet true),
great verse consists of words well coined.*
For others though, it doesn’t matter if
their verses are well joined
as long they are set in rhymes
(even at expense of sense)
and in inversions and misuse of terms
and grammar’s secondary in the face
of measurement
or if the lines they write
are in their character “all tell, no show”.
And when these “others” are called out
for sloppiness, for writing line-break prose,
they charge their critics with
a lack of understanding and intelligence,
and won’t admit
the reason that their “poetry”
is taken to be less than good,
disjointed, dull, clichéd,
incapable of making people see
with eyes closed shut,
and full of incoherency,
is that they think
against all evidence
that they’re incapable of writing verse that stinks.

I can't see a thing of what you say in your criticism can be applied to my poem. You imagine how you write these ideas and want others to follow you. I am too far from that as l consider that your writing is far from being good poetry if it is poetry at all.

"I can't see a thing of what you say in your criticism can be applied to my poem."
So you were wrong to say that those who say that great verse is well-coined words do NOT forget what you say they forget? Yes or no?
And the issue isn't whether what **I** write is poetry (despite the fact that many people here unrelated to me say it is), but whether what you have claimed in this piece is coherent, let alone true.

Dear Baldwin,
On your honour, do you consider what you have written poetry? Don't you feel ashamed of writing it? Sorry, but this is how l feel. This is ............ . I tried to show you that anybody could write such a thing, but then l felt ashamed of what l had done. Please, respect yourself and don't write such things.

Re: Re. POETRY AND THOUGHTS
Another dodge.
The issue at hand is whether you think that you are incapable of writing poorly, and whether you've made an unsustainable claim, NOT whether what I write is poetry.
But I note that according to what you have publicly stated a writing has to have to be poetry -- rhythm, rhyme, thoughts -- yes, my piece above is poetry. If you do not consider it so, then you have to admit that you work by a double standard.
More importantly, though, is the fact that you've shown again and again that you have no honor when it comes to answering yes or no to yes or no questions.
