Desert Dragon
some people call him ‘the monster’ yeah
some call him the gangster of love
some people call him Heloderm
cause he reeks
of the pompatus
of love
awesome living fossil
been around since the Miocene
too old to rock and roll too young to die
he’s a true stud
underground rock star
orange and black skin like beaded leather
some people call him Heloderm
if you see him
you’re one of the lucky few
mostly subterranean fellow
generally pretty mellow not a lot of flash
but a trunk full of cool
he’s not that fast and not real lean
some people call him ‘the monster’ yeah
sniffs the air with his snakelike tongue
if he’s hungry and he’s got your scent
he’ll track you to the ends of the earth
Gila Monster meanest hunk of lizard
that anybody’s ever seen
down in the mojave

In my neck of the woods
Neighbors all over the place take photos of this Beastie on their brick fences.
I've yet to espy one of these Beauties -- maybe too many Javelinas running about.
(aaargh! Now that song - Space Cowboy is stuck in my brain - thanx, Brother - LOL)
