Changing Addictions

An addiction is an addiction.
You don't need a prescription.
Yours is the needle.
Mine is the bottle.

It numbs all of my pain and clears my mind.
So I understand why you do it all of the time.
You can forget all of your problems for a very long while.
You forget all of the trauma you experienced as a child.

Your world is brightened for a limited amount of time.
It's no wonder stopping is something you haven't tried.
You forget yourself and where you've been.
You forget the positons you've been put in.

Mine isn't any better just because it's legal.
We're the same, a couple of broken people.
Numbing our pain, tearing down our bodies.
Not being productive, ignoring our callings.

Instead of being better, we escape the world.
Taking on addictions that we can't even afford.
Always finding ways to get us our fix.
It's the same, they both make us sick.

Only thing is I replaced one addiction with another.
I would rather forget than continue to fucking suffer.
Because my first addiction was you.
With this, I don't worry if it wants me too.
