(the Jungle)

chapter one


The old Indian sits in his wigwam, .. almost blind now with his outer eyes, .. although he can see more now
he lite's the sage and sits with his ghosts, .. everyday or so the old woman brings him food, ..he is not of this world anymore, .. he does not think to eat
his mind slides back a fourth thru time, .. he still taste his early kills, .. still, .. in his mouth
as he falls back thru time, .. he tells the old woman what he sees, .. ” she thinks he is insane ”
.. . she is most likely right, sitting on the edge of the land, .. now called America.
… staring out his wild eyes, .. he spells the warm air, .. “ how did I get here? ”
the sage his armor, .. it lingers in the air, .. it helps him remember, .. just why he’s here, .. to save the boy
… the boy is lost, .. so lost to himself
and so it begins
