father kite soars
red green blue
against gray sky

wind shifts from gentle breeze
to violent gusts to stillness
rainfall pitter patters

kite dives into the abyss
shattered on vishnu schist
satisfied

having flown through
a billion years
to end at the beginning

Author's Note

Based on the experience of flying my kite in a remote area of the Grand Canyon. Vishnu schist is the oldest rock layer.at the deepest part of the canyon. 1.71-1.74 billion years old.
