Hayduke Lives

how far do you have to go to defend homeland?
how far is too far?
how far is not enough?

i am the ghost of edward abbey

my masters thesis was titled: anarchy and the morality of violence

anarchism is not throwing a brick through a window
(although that action may be one way of expressing it)

anarchism is distrust of centralized power the belief
that any concentration of power is dangerous

we fought a war of revolution for this principle
taxation without representation

separation of church and state
democratization of government
checks and balances
freedom to raise a local militia
freedom to assemble
freedom to speak your mind without retribution
freedom to honor a higher power or not
freedom to pursue dreams
freedom from search and seizure

i am unique i am free do not dare to try
to stamp your will on my person if you wish to continue breathing

through pure anarchism pure democracy can occur

i am the brave cowboy
i am jack burns
i am the conscience of the earth

human beings are equal by virtue of being alive
we deserve to be respected

respect for each human being
should be extended to each living thing

love the world
instead of trying to dominate it
subjugate it enslave it

do something
you can’t go gentile into that good night

resist much obey little

i do night work
you won’t hear about it
you won’t relate it to me because i appear conventional

when a billboard burns when a tree is spiked
when a coal plant stops running

it could be
me
or not

is sand in a gas tank an act of violence
is a spiking a tree a military activity?

is burning a billboard
that advertises an adult bookstore
or a church an act of terrorism
or an act of self defense?

i do night work for the dark unpeopled desert
for the bright and triumphant moon

i am the wooden shoe in the bowels of the machine
stopping it up preventing it from shitting on the environment

i am the spanner in the works slowing down ‘progress’
forcing you to think twice before contaminating nature
to pause before deforesting in the name of agriculture

it is not revolutionary
it is self-defense

protecting mother earth my home the home given to me
by a higher power the home that is delicate and
beautiful and gives back as much as i give

the home that we all share the home that should not
be degraded polluted exploited by the few
in the name of profit in the name of growth

uncontrolled growth
is the philosophy of the cancer cell
we treat cancer
by irradiating it poisoning it cutting it out

to allow it to live results in our own death

government is not serving us church is not serving us
there is no leadership at the top
particularly morally
so the only recourse is to build from the bottom up

weapons of war are now retooled to create tillers dozers harvesters
chemical weapons retooled into pesticides and herbicides
explosive retooled into fertilizers
that destroy topsoil create floods and dust storms
poison waterways and fisheries

serene canyons flooded to provide water for agriculture
that deforests the land for short term profits

ungodly manipulation of dna to make money

to build freeways to build homes in forests and grasslands
where food comes in a box and experience of the world
comes in  an air-conditioned vehicle that
uses limited fossil fuel to ambulate over asphalt pathways

where the beauty of nature is viewed
on a screen instead of enjoyed through
hard physical labor beauty earned by will and
effort rather than the click of a mouse

there is a duty a moral obligation to defend nature by any means

legal first if unsuccessful civil disobedience if that fails
then more direct action no matter the means
it is still self defense

the first rule to cause no harm to
fellow human beings

(stockholders CEOs corporate officers highly
paid politicians corrupt clergy
do not fall into that category they have foregone humanity for personal gain)

if I’m out there and i see something that doesn’t belong
i fuck with it

we can’t stop the monolith but
we can raise consciousness

polite conservationists leave no mark save for the scars on the land
that could’ve been prevented had they held their ground

we stand for what we stand on

where do you draw the line?
what scars are you willing to live with?

sentiment without
action is the ruin of the soul

i am gaia the earth mother
defend me now
or defend yourself later when the shit hits the fan
