I wonder

When a wave breaks  
Upon the shore I wonder
If it feels satisfied, anxious
Happy or sad
 
As it reaches skyward only to
Return to Earth and crash
Dissipate into the sand and air
Returning home from its journey
 
I wonder if it knows it is a wave
And its mother ocean and father motion
Love it dearly
As I do
 
The wave is who I am
Seemingly separate from what made me
Distinct enough to be named
Undefinable as blackness between stars
 
Only to crash and dissipate with ease
Return home as I am meant to
 
I am not me without what is around me
As a wave is not a wave without the ocean
