today
we were asked
to draw our houses
so i did

with the
crumpled piece
of paper
i was sitting on

and the 8
crayons
i stole
from mary

i drew my house

my house
has a red gate
to keep away
the neighbor's dog

so i learned
to sneak outside
so that
i could pet it

my house
has doors
that are
always unlocked

so i learned
to lock
myself
instead

my house
has knives
that clang
in the living room

so i learned
to back-stab
only in
my mind

my house
is the quiet one
in the neighborhood

because
we know
how to cry
inside
